Our independent learning during school closure

On Monday 27th April (week 2 after Easter) all class learning will be moving from this site to Class Dojo. You will receive an invitation email during the week beginning 20th April (week 1 after Easter).

This new system will be more child friendly and allow teachers to be able to upload videos and work more effectively. Teachers will continue to respond to messages through this new site.

New work for the week will be available by 10am every Monday.

Thank you for all you are doing to support the pupils.

The new work for the week will be set by 10am each Monday.

Where possible, the children should complete the work in their new exercise book and it should be marked by parents along side their child. Please remember to always focus on the positives when reviewing their work. We appreciate your support with this.

Home Learning Week 2

Monday 30th March - Friday 3rd April 2020

English Week 2

This week we will be planning a story using a set of videos which can be found at:

https://www.literacyshed.com/nightzoo.html#

By the end of the week, you will have planned an adventure story. Follow the step by step guide and be as creative as you can.

Day One

Watch the first video clip on creating a character. After you have watched the video, discuss the questions together, then using the printable worksheet, create your own animal character.

Day Two

Watch the second video clip on creating a setting. Discuss the questions together, then using the printable worksheet, create a home for your animal character and a setting you will use in your story.

Day Three

Watch the third video clip on creating problems for your character to solve. Discuss the questions together.  Using the printable worksheet, think about the sort of problems your character may face.

Day Four

Watch the final video clip on finding solutions to the problems you created yesterday. Discuss the questions together then, using the printable worksheet, complete a story plan bringing together all your ideas from this week.

Over the Easter Holidays, you could have a go at writing your story. Be as imaginative and descriptive as you can.

For other fun English activities, try listening to https://radioblogging.net/  It’s a live radio show with interactive blogging from 9.30-10.30. You can have a go at different games and activities guided by the fantastic Pie Corbett.

Optional Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation work.

Try the SPaG test for Year 3 or Year 4 listed in the resources. No spelling test this week, but please remember to revise the y3/4 statutory list.

Reading

We have set up a class account on the reading website EPIC which the children can use to access a range of free reading books. The link to the website is: www.getepic.com/students.  Families will be emailed soon with a class activation code.

Maths Week 2

Please open the PDF files for your year group. The first sheet that you see explains how the lessons work. Please work through the Learning Reminders together then encourage your child to either work on the mild (easier) or hot (harder) practice sheets independently. Where provided, have a go at the challenge. Children can also continue to work on Mathletics activities and TTRockstars

Topic Work for Week 2

PE: Please exercise daily with Joe Wicks using this link.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8

Alternatively, use the Cosmic Kids website https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

Or, of course, go for a run.

Science:

Play this game.

http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2science.html

Make a magnet maze following the instructions.

The instructions can be printed out as a PDF. (see resources)

Hopefully everyone will have a magnet at home?  Have you checked on your fridge or notice boards?

If you are unable to do this activity, think about the Magnet Game you designed in class.   Write an evaluation of the game. What worked well?  What would you change/improve?  Draw a picture of your game and write a set of instructions on how to play it.

Draw a mind map to show everything you have learnt about magnets and forces this term.

Design & Technology

Bridges Project.

Try some or all of these activities

  • Learn about the different types of bridges on the 'Types of Bridges' Powerpoint presentation.
  • Play the Bridge Builder activity at https://gridclub.com/activities/brunels-britain
  • Try the practical activity on the 'Suspension Bridge Fact File' sheet.
  • Use the ' Building Bridges' Powerpoint and activity sheet to investigate ways of making simple bridges.

Extension Activity

Try making your own bridge using materials you have access to at home. Use the 'Bridge Design worksheets' to help plan your ideas.

RE:

Using the Powerpoint presentation recap on the Easter Story. Print out the picture cards (choose 1 star which is easier with captions already written, 2 stars which need to be stuck to the correct caption or 3 stars which is harder because the student needs to write a caption to go with the picture)

Retell the story by sequencing the pictures in the correct order.

If you have time, you could also make an Easter card to send to a loved one.

ICT

Via email you will be sent a link to your Geography Powerpoint presentations. Remember, you will now be working on these individually. You will also be sent a separate Powerpoint with ideas on what to include, how to improve your presentation and how to add special effect / hyperlinks.
